Well we are 3 games in, not even a full series complete, and it may already be time for me to hit the panic button with my Arizona Diamondbacks.
Yes, I know...you’re already giving me the dirtiest look because we still have 159 games left, and the Dbacks sit at 1-2.
Here’s the thing though: you don’t know how many seasons I’ve been told in the spring, “This is the Dbacks’ year! It’s their time! They’ve assembled a championship-caliber roster!”... then here comes the HUGE FLOP.
I’ve got too many battle scars over here to not panic over this horrendous start, which, in all fairness, could be 0-3 if not for GENO Suárez mashing the ball.
These first 3 games have been a disaster—
Baserunning blunders
An ace not even getting to the 5th inning
And SIX yes, I said SIX freakin’ errors!
As a team, we had fewer than 80 all of last year. We’re on pace for 324, so yeah I mean that’s pretty cool.
But you see, the worst part so far is it doesn’t feel like the brand of baseball that got us to the World Series in 2023. Or helped us survive endless injuries last season, still finishing one game out of the playoffs.
Oh...you want an example?
Corbin Carroll has gotten on base a damn good amount of times...Yet not ONE steal attempt so far.
Instead, I feel like they’re banking on Naylor, Marte, and Suárez (who, in fairness, has been killin it) to just mash it into a gap or over the wall.
NO.
Let’s get back to our s***. Let’s make teams uncomfortable again.
The amount of speed on this team needs to be used.If Jake McCarthy, Alek Thomas, and Carroll each hit a combined .270 this season, they should have a combined 100 steals.
That’s how you beat teams, by playing harder and smarter than them. Instead, the Dbacks have found ways to beat themselves through the first weekend.
Again—I get it.There’s still 159 games left. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Try telling that to someone who missed the playoffs by ONE DAMN GAME last year.
All 162 count now. We can’t just be giving them away not now, not in June, not in August.
The Dbacks need to lock in! Because with March Madness ending and the NHL & NBA playoffs about to start, the dawg days of the sports calendar are right around the corner.
To survive the summer as a sports fan, you need your baseball team to compete...Or it’s gonna be a long damn summer waiting for football.
Bet of the Day
